ENERGY FACILITIES PLANNING

For clients who use fuels to produce steam, chilled water, or electricity, we provide objective energy facilities planning services. Because energy facilities are sophisticated process plants with both fuel inputs and diverse energy outputs, our services integrate our fuel supply and energy supply planning services with facilities planning to achieve low total energy supply costs at acceptable risk levels.

We have substantial experience in estimating capital and operating costs, projecting future loads, projecting fuel and electricity prices, and in communicating the plan and the results of our analyses to top management so that projects that should be built can be built.

Planning
We assist our clients in planning for the construction of new and replacement energy facilities. In addition, we assist in renovating and modifying existing facilities. In doing so, we work to answer the bigger questions: What fuels should we use? What energy forms should they produce? What approach should they take to environmental issues? How will electric industry restructuring affect the facility?

Fuel Procurement
Fuel is the largest cost over the life of a project, even exceeding the capital cost. Much of our energy facilities planning, therefore, focuses on fuel cost. We determine which fuels should be used, project fuel prices, and often procure fuel for our clients. We also evaluate fuel inventory and storage requirements.

Environmental Constraints
Increasingly, stringent air emissions requirements make it more difficult than ever to plan cost-effective energy facilities. So that clients can use fuels cost-effectively, we combine regulatory compliance with emission control technology. We prepare environmental compliance plans for new and existing facilities, and we also assist our clients in obtaining environmental permits.
