Muni Lite
As an interim step to full-scale municipalization, a number of cities have considered the “muni lite” option. Under muni lite, a municipal entity is formed to serve public (governmental) customers within the city. In addition to saving the city money on electrical costs, muni lite allows a city to arrange power supplies for the most critical city functions. Muni lite enables a community to gain experience in the electric utility industry, without the risk involved in full municipalization.

In the past, this term has also been used to describe a type of municipal aggregation that involves the purchase of minimal assets.
