Founded in 1984, Dahlen, Berg & Co. specializes in energy-related issues
and provides a wide range of energy supply management services to our clients.
Our mission is to enable our clients, in the complex and changing world of
energy industry restructuring, to manage their energy risks and to control
their total energy costs. Since our founding, we have served more than 250
clients, including municipal and consumer-owned utilities, colleges and universities, and
large commercial and industrial energy users.
Management Team
Dahlen, Berg Consulting
We provide a full range of energy management consulting services.
Our consultants
develop and carry out practical solutions to our clients' energy management needs.
Trained in management, finance, engineering, economics, accounting, and law,
and often having extensive operating and general management experience, our
consultants are able to address a wide range of issues and to achieve our goal
of providing cost-effective consulting services that produce the benefits our
clients expect.
Avant Energy, Inc. is the trade name for the firm's
non-consulting activities.
Project Development
An outgrowth of our consulting work, we assist clients in developing power
generation and cogeneration projects. We oversee all aspects of project
development: from initial planning, procurement, and contract negotiation;
through permitting, finance, and construction; and finally, commissioning and
start-up. We frequently act as owner's representative, overseeing the work of
EPC contractors and other vendors to ensure that projects are built on-time and
on-budget and operate as intended.
Electricity Trading
To assist our municipal utility clients with their wholesale power supply
requirements, we maintain an electricity trading desk, staffed 24/7. Our
traders are active buying and selling in the hourly, day-ahead, and term energy
markets in the upper Midwest, transacting with counterparties in the MAPP, MAIN,
SPP, and WECC power pools.
Management Services
Dahlen, Berg & Co. serves as Agent for and performs all management and operational functions for the
Minnesota Municipal Power Agency (MMPA). Some of the functions we perform for MMPA include:
day-to-day and long-term management and planning services, schedule and dispatch of the MMPA's
resources, billing, and accounting.
Utility Operations
Dahlen, Berg & Co. operates power plants for its clients on a contract basis.
We provide staffing and management, arrange for maintenance and supplies, and prepare reports for owners.
